WHY

Why We Are Organizing This

सRiddhi – Equal Future Summit 2026 is an international, annual convening that brings together changemakers to address burning issues impacting economic justice and gender equality. This year’s central theme is SAFE: Ensuring Women’s Safety for Prosperity in the Financial Ecosystem. Over the past few decades, India has witnessed a remarkable transformation in women’s financial empowerment. From informal savings traditions to leading-edge digital inclusion, women have become central to the nation’s financial growth story. Today, India’s women hold nearly 40% of all bank accounts, benefit from wide-ranging digital infrastructure, and increasingly lead enterprises and self-help initiatives. With visionary programs such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Digital India, and PM SVANidhi, India has built one of the world’s most inclusive financial ecosystems.

Yet, inclusion alone is not enough. The next frontier is ensuring safety and autonomy where every woman can transact, save, borrow, and invest with confidence, privacy, and control. Around the world, countries are recognizing the importance of protecting women from financial exploitation, coercion, or abuse. India too has embedded strong safeguards through the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA, 2005) and expanding banking, regulatory, and digital protection frameworks.

The good news:
the momentum toward safe and equitable finance is accelerating. Banks, regulators, and fintech innovators are integrating gender-sensitive design, improving digital literacy, and promoting women-led financial models such as BC Sakhis and Self-Help Groups. Global and Indian reforms—from the UK’s Domestic Abuse Act (2021) to RBI’s financial awareness drives—are reshaping the way financial systems understand and uphold women’s rights.
